Tropical Residual Soils de (Ed. Geological Society Publishing House) Isbn : 1897799381
69.06 € / 453 FF
Tropical residual soils differ from transported soils which are principally derived from coastal, fluvial, wind blown or glacial processes. In the tropics, residual soils probably form that largest group with which the engineer has to deal. Being formed in situ these soils have particular characteristics that distinguish them from material deposited from transported soils. The aim of the original Working Party Report, published in 1990, was to establish a resonably comprehensive guide to the engineering classification and characteristics of tropical residual soils. The Working Party comprised academics, researchers, contractors and consultants known to have been particularly concerned with tropical residual soils. This edition makes the report available in book form for the first time. Th... |

Soil Liquid Phase Composition de V. V. Snakin, A.A. Prisyazhnaya, E. Kovacs-Lang (Ed. Elsevier Science Ltd) Isbn : 0444506756
99.99 € / 655.89 FF
The liquid phase of soil (soil solution) is a very thin, penetrating and all-embracing water layer. It has the most extensive surface among the biosphere components and interacts with all these components. Presented in this work is a new complex approach developed for soil liquid phase investigation that is based on in situ measurements. Investigation of the soil liquid phase can be of great significance in environmental research. This volume sums up the vast experience of the authors' research into soil liquid phase composition in various ecosystems of Central and Eastern Europe. It describes the methodological basics of soil liquid phase research: methods of soil solution extraction, the main problems of application of ion-selective electrodes for immediate in situ assessment of ionic a... |

Fine grained sediment : transport of suspended particles de Jean-Pierre Dupont (Ed. Quae éditions) Isbn : 2759200213
6.86 € / 45 FF
The behaviour of suspended matter in the Seine estuary is due to the high organic content, the morphology of the dyked channel flow, the erosion/settlement processes and hydrodynamical parameters which come from tidal cycles and meteorological events. SPM discharge from the catchment area are focused during flood stages. One part of these materials moves to the mouth estuary and then are exported in the outer estuarine zone of Baie de Seine. The other part settles on banks and hydrological extends and then is transfered to the mouth estuary or exported by dredging. The turbidity maximum zone of the mouth estuary changes according to hydrodynamical effects. Turbidity and hydrodynamical recordings give us fundamental data for the development of hydrosedimentological models of the estuary. |

Nitrogen Fixation at the Millennium de (Ed. Elsevier Science Ltd) Isbn : 0444509658
99.99 € / 655.89 FF
Hardbound. The turn of the millennium from the twentieth to the twenty-first century provides an occasion to review our understanding of a biological process, biological nitrogen fixation, that is of prime importance for the continued survival of mankind. This process has provided a basis for maintaining soil fertility since the beginning of organised agriculture, yet its very existence was confirmed only just over a century ago. In the intervening years, an enormous intellectual effort has dispersed much of the mystery surrounding biological nitrogen fixation. Biological fixation is widely exploited in agriculture, as are nitrogen fertilisers prepared for the last hundred years under extreme conditions of temperature and pressure. However, despite all our efforts, the fundamental nature ... |

2001. A Clay Odyssey: Proceedings of the 12th International Clay Conference Bahia Blanca, Argentinba, July 22-28, 2001 de (Ed. Elsevier Science Ltd) Isbn : 0444509453
99.99 € / 655.89 FF
Hardbound. The meeting was organized by a local university committee and 205 delegates from 35 countries took part. European participation was low due to the economic crisis experienced by national air lines. During the conference, the AIPEA medals were awarded to Gerhard Lagaly and Tom Pinnavaia. This volume of the Conference Proceedings contains 85 out of a total of 235 oral presentations and posters presented at the following symposia: Teaching Clay Mineralogy, Clays in Hydrothermal Deposits, Clays in Ceramics, Clays in Petroleum Exploration and Production, Clay Barriers, and Waste Management, as well as in the following general sessions of the Conference: Clays in Geology, Clay Minerals and Environment, Soil Mineralogy, Methods, Crystal Chemistry Structure and Synthesis, and Clays in ... |

Soil, Fertilizer, and Plant Silicon Research in Japan de Jian Feng Ma, Eiichi Takahashi (Ed. Elsevier Science Ltd) Isbn : 0444511660
99.99 € / 655.89 FF
Hardbound. Silicon (Si) plays a significant role in the resistance of plants to multiple stresses including biotic and abiotic stresses. Silicon is also the only element that does not damage plants when accumulated in excess. However, the contribution of Si to plant growth has been largely ignored due to its universal existence in the earth's crust. From numerous intensive studies on Si, initiated in Japan about 80 years ago, Japanese scientists realized that Si was important for the healthy growth of rice and for stability of rice production. In a worldwide first, silicon was recognized as a valuable fertilizer in Japan. The beneficial effects of Si on rice growth in particular, are largely attributable to the characteristics of a silica gel that is accumulated on the epidermal tissues i... |
